Learning to Grow
Your Online Dating Relationship
As our worldly relationships grow so do our online relationships
and we need to learn to take care of ourselves online is just as
important as offline! Listed are a few tips to help you out!
1. Taking time for us and our date: Do you make time to chat with
your date; do you make time for yourself? If you aren’t spending
enough time with your date it could have consequences. If your
relationship is lacking communication you may need to find someone
else. Respect your online date as you would a relationship
offline.
2. Never ignore your instinct: Having a relationship online can be
scary. When you are not feeling comfortable chatting with your
online date something could be wrong. Trust is a hard thing to
earn and if your date is bossy or being forceful this could be a
tell tale sign to leave them alone! Never ignore your instincts if
they tell you to back off; then do it!
3. Give each other respect: When it comes to online dating
the more personal information your give the better. It is not safe
to give out your telephone number to everyone you meet online, or
share photos. If they ask for you to get a web cam be skeptical.
Trusting people with webcams though it is easy to see each other
and chat is not always a safe thing. Do not trust them right away
with your personal and confidential information!
4. Share times with your date online as well as off: If you
are talking to them online you may want to send them an eCard, or
play virtual games together, even join chat communities so you can
spend more time with them. If you talk with them long enough to be
sharing info offline then you may want to send them some flowers
from your favorite gift site to their home, or write letters. You
should wait a bit before sending your addresses or if you would
like to write a letter and are unsure how trustworthy they are
send them a P.O. Box address.
As with all relationships we need to nurture our experiences
online as well. Taking the extra time to develop your online
relationship is important not only for your physical safety but
your mental safety as well. Remembering to take your time and move
slowly while working with the other person to expand your
relationship is important. We often forget that these
relationships are just as real as an offline relationship and
people can get hurt just the same. Always follow your instinct as
well as your heart and if it doesn’t sit right or you have doubts
leave the relationship respectfully. Learning to listen to your
self is important in any relationship. Doing small things for each
other such as buying eCards and sending special messages will make
each other feel special. Remember to have fun and enjoy yourself
you only live once! |
